The ball drop in NYC is probably the most famous New Year's Eve celebration in the world, but it's not the only over-the-top party – and it's certainly not the most expensive. Check out these other awesome New Year's events from around the world:
- Bangkok, Thailand: Sure, they copied the ball drop in N.Y., but the event, hosted by Thai pop stars, guarantees much warmer temperatures, and a customary trip to make offerings of food, candles and flowers to the monks at the nine sacred Buddhist temples.
- Berlin, Germany: Hosts one of the largest parties in Europe! More than a million visitors create the Party Mile to drink lots of spirits and watch an elaborate fireworks and laser display.
- Dubai: Of course this opulent city goes over-the-top for New Year's! Two billion spectators gather in front of the city’s Burj Khalifa skyscraper to watch as fireworks cascade from each floor of the 160-story building. This display follows a four-hour show of lasers, fire, water and music at the Dubai Fountain.
- Edinburgh, Scotland: Hogmanay, or "last day of the year," is such a big New Year’s event that it spans four days. A massive street party, concerts and a Viking-led torchlight procession end the elaborate affair.
- Goa, India: Its beautiful beaches are converted into massive rave parties complete with booze and dancing until dawn! (HuffintonPost)
