Even though the South is perceived to be a bit laid-back and carefree, a new study says that not everyone there is as happy as previously thought.
Southern states dominate a list of the most miserable states in the U.S., taking every spot in the top five – with Mississippi named as the least desirable state of all.
On the other hand, cold weather states like Minnesota and New Hampshire have been declared the least miserable in the country.
The ranking is based on 13 different indicators of “misery” such as air pollution, high school graduation, poor health and violent crime. Economic factors such as salary, income inequality and the unemployment rate are also included in the calculation.
