9/11 Memorial Stair Climb
Time: 11 a.m.

Location: Gettysburg Area High School football stadium behind the Gettysburg Area Middle School at 37 Lefever St.
Details: Firefighters, other first responders and citizens either climb the equivalent of 110 floors or walk the distance that equates to the climb. First responders and citizens from throughout the region are encouraged to participate.
Registration: Interested participants can register online through the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation website or on the day of the event at the football stadium.
Cost: $25 per person. The first 300 people to preregister will be guaranteed a commemorative T-shirt. Proceeds go to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.

Details: Shiremanstown Historical Society will host the event, which includes a meal. A local firefighter who spent time at ground zero after the attack will speak, and a historian will discuss the evolution of the American flag. Memorial Ceremony

Details: The ceremony will consist of memories of that day, patriotic music and a memorial service. Attendees at the ceremony are asked to wear red, white or blue. Program will be headed by the AMVETS Post 274 ladies auxiliary, with assistance from the Marine Corps League of Carlisle, the Elks and the Eagles.

Fraternal Order of Police remembrance ceremony

Location: FOP headquarters, 2949 N. Front St., Harrisburg
Details: The ceremony will feature a memorial of 72 flags on the front lawn of FOP headquarters. Each flag represents a police officer who lost his or her life on Sept. 11, 2001. An honor guard will preside over the memorial from 8:46 a.m. to 10:03 a.m., the time from the first plane crash to the last in Shanksville. Speakers include a Pennsylvania State Trooper who responded to rescue efforts on the day of the attacks.
National Day of Service and Remembrance

Location: Atrium of Strawberry Square, 11 N. Third St., #100, Harrisburg
Details: In addition to the display of flowers, our flag and a poster, there will be a 2-hour multimedia presentation playing in the atrium throughout the day, which includes the timeline of events on Sept. 11, as well as interviews, a scrolling of names of those lost, and a look forward to the memorial and what is being done today.

9/11 Ten Year Anniversary Commemoration UNITY Concert

Details: Concert will feature the collaboration of vocalist Neshama Carlebach with the Rev. Roger Hambrick and the Green Pastures Baptist Church Choir, an acclaimed group of 25 voices from New York City. Event is sponsored by The United Way of the Capital Region in partnership with many other community organizations. Proceeds will benefit agencies that serve local women and children, including: YWCA, Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence, The Women’s Fund of the Foundation for Enhancing Communities and The Women of Vision Fund of the Jewish Communal Foundation. This communal gathering and concert is being spearheaded by 12-year-old Yael Muroff who was inspired to hold a community commemoration as her bat mitzvah project. For part two, Stuart Malina conducts vocalists Sasha Piastro, Amy Yovanovich, Eric Rieger, and Damian Savarino, the Susquehanna Chorale and the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra in a performance of Mozart’s Requiem.

Details: Held by Pennsylvania Nonbelievers Inc. Speakers will be David Silverman, president of American Atheists, and Jason Torpy, president of Military Association of Atheists and Free Thinkers. A moment of silence will be observed at the exact time of each catastrophic occurrence of that day. Recorded music will be played, featuring several artists who have written nonreligious songs about 9/11. The event provides an alternative for those who are not religious.

Remembering 9/11: Tolling of the Reily Bell
Time: Beginning at 8:46 a.m. and at each catastrophic event of that day.
Date: Sept. 11.
Location: The Pennsylvania National Fire Museum, 1820 N. Fourth St., Harrisburg.
Details: The bell at Pennsylvania National Fire Museum will toll for one minute for each of the six major events of the day. Following these one minute tolls the bell will ring out 343 times at five second intervals to honor the 343 firefighters of FDNY that perished. After a one-minute pause the bell will toll 72 times for additional first responders that died.

Pennsylvania National Fire Museum Displays: To honor the fallen heroes of September 11

Details: Four displays throughout the museum: There is a forest of 415 small American Flags in the Hand/Horse Drawn display area; permanent display in the motorized apparatus room that features photos of the World Trade Center area; collection of 343 fire helmets from various area fire companies in the front parlor; display of eight pictorial panels reflects the World Trade Center before 9/11; the attacks on 9/11 at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and the crash of Flight 93 in Shanksville; the response by first responders; recovery efforts; and the future Freedom Tower.

9/11 Memorial Service

Details: Three pieces of steel, collectively weighing almost one ton, that were part of the World Trade Center Towers arrived in Franklin County on Aug. 9, through the efforts of the Letterkenny Chapel 9/11 Franklin County Memorial Committee, and with the assistance of the Letterkenny Army Depot. The artifacts will be unveiled and on display on the square in Chambersburg. The materials will be dedicated for a permanent memorial planned for the United Churches Letterkenny Chapel grounds at the depot.

Ride for Remembrance

Details: The Pennsylvania National Guard 28th Infantry Division Association is holding its Inaugural Ride for Remembrance to benefit the 28th Infantry Division Association Memorial Fund.
Cost: $25 per rider, $10 per passenger. All motorcycles and cars are welcome. Commemorative shirts will be given to participants who pre-register. A limited supply will be available on the day of the event while supplies last.

10th Anniversary of 9/11 Commemoration

Location: The Liberty Garden, Kiwanis Lake Park, Parkway Boulevard and North Newberry Street, York .
Details: Keynote speaker will be Congressman Todd Platts. The commemoration will include patriotic music, the York City Police Honor Guard, emergency vehicles and uniformed personnel from the York City Fire and Police Departments as well as from White Rose Ambulance. A tent will be available for shelter. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating. Children are encouraged to attend; however no child care is available.
